Where it came from
The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil originated as a manga series written and illustrated by Sazane Hibiki, which began serialization in 2016. The story occupies the romantic comedy genre, blending supernatural elements with high school tropes as the protagonist Masatora Akutsu, a demon scout, attempts to recruit a human who turns out to be an angel with a hidden agenda. The work plays on the classic trope of celestial versus infernal archetypes, subverting expectations through the evolving relationship between the leads.
The 2024 television anime adaptation was produced by studio Children's Playground Entertainment under the KADOKAWA banner. The production aimed to capture the kinetic, expressive nature of Hibiki’s character designs while navigating the transition from static manga panels to animation. Upon release, the series was noted for its commitment to the energetic tone of the source material, appealing to audiences who enjoy character-driven comedies that lean into absurd, supernatural role reversals.
