Where it came from
The Last: Naruto the Movie was released in 2014 as part of the broader Naruto Project, commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of Masashi Kishimoto's original manga series. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the film serves as a canonical bridge between the end of the manga's main narrative and the final chapter, focusing specifically on the burgeoning romantic relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga.
Masashi Kishimoto served as the chief production supervisor and handled the character designs and story concepts for the film. His intent was to provide a mature, character-driven narrative that explored the emotional development of the leads after years of wartime conflict. The film received a generally positive reception from the franchise's fanbase, praised primarily for its higher animation quality compared to the television series and for providing closure to long-standing character arcs.
