A very short animation drawn on tracing paper with a brush pen and colored pencil.
“This work was inspired by an impressive dream. In the dream, I took a dictionary that printed flip-books in the corner from a book shelf, and when I returned it, the book had disappeared.” [Yuko Asano]

Where it came from
Money Heist, originally titled La Casa de Papel, was created by Álex Pina and premiered on the Spanish network Antena 3 in 2017. Designed as a limited series, it was intended to be a closed heist thriller centered on an ambitious plan to print billions of euros at the Royal Mint of Spain. The series employs a distinct visual language, utilizing red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks to deindividualize the crew and highlight the collective nature of their resistance.
Following its acquisition by Netflix, the series was recut and distributed globally, where it unexpectedly became one of the platform's most-watched non-English language programs. The aesthetic of the show, particularly the iconic mask, became a global cultural shorthand for anti-establishment movements. Its success led to a significant expansion of the narrative beyond the original planned run, securing its place as a landmark in the globalization of Spanish-language television.
