Where it came from
The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light was produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2021 as a direct sequel to the conclusion of the anime series. Serving as an original feature-length project, it was written by the manga's creator, Nakaba Suzuki, to provide a definitive epilogue to the main storyline. The film aims to bridge the gap between the final season of the series and the subsequent narrative arcs, focusing on the protagonist Meliodas as he faces a new threat to the peace of the kingdom of Liones.
The film's visual direction under Studio DEEN sought to maintain the high-fantasy aesthetic established throughout the franchise's multi-season run. While the production faced scrutiny from fans regarding the consistency of its animation style compared to earlier seasons, the movie was received as a functional capstone for the series. It was designed to satisfy long-term viewers by featuring cameos from key characters and resolving lingering conflicts regarding the power dynamics between the various magical clans in the series' lore.
