After graduating middle school, Tonbo Ooi sets sail from the isolated island of Tokara to Kumamoto in hopes of advancing her golf career. Using his connections, Tonbo's mentor Kazuyoshi Igarashi is able to convince coach Hajime Udou to train her. While Tonbo initially has trouble showing off her abilities with her peculiar playstyle and inexperience with using a variety of golf clubs, she quickly proves her worth at her course debut by making use of her unique skills.
Leaving an impression on Hajime and the people around her, Tonbo is sent to compete in the Kyushu Women's Championship. Met with familiar faces and new rivals, she is determined to dive deeper into the professional world of golf.

Where it came from
Tonbo! is an anime adaptation of the long-running manga series written by Ken Kawasaki and illustrated by Yu Furusawa. The series follows the journey of a young girl named Tonbo who lives on the remote Tokara Islands, discovering a deep passion for golf while playing on a handmade course. The production of the second season by studio OLM in 2024 serves as a continuation of the narrative established in the initial run, maintaining the focus on the intersection of personal growth and the technical precision of the sport.
The visual direction for the series is characterized by a deliberate contrast between the lush, rugged landscapes of the Tokara Islands and the rigid, formal environments of the professional golf world. The creative team aimed to capture the quiet intensity of the sport, using animation to emphasize the physical mechanics of the golf swing and the psychological state of the protagonist. Upon its release, the series has been noted for its contemplative pacing and its grounded approach to the sports genre, distancing itself from the high-stakes, supernatural tropes often found in contemporary athletics-focused media.
