One day, a new sword manifested at their citadel.
Fudou Yukimitsu: A sword worn by a commander of the Sengoku era, Oda Nobunaga, who was granted to one of his attending servants, Mori Ranmaru. Fudou Yukimitsu makes it known that he is proud to be Oda Nobunaga's beloved sword, but clashes with the other swords who also call Nobunaga their former master: Souza Samonji, Heshikiri Hasebe, and Yagen Toushirou. The appointed team captain, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, must rally a citadel that has fallen into disarray at Fudou Yukimitsu's arrival. In the midst of all this, the saniwa has received an order to depart for the year 1582 -- the Honnouji event, where Oda Nobunaga met his demise...
Anime production was scripted and overseen by Kenichi Suemitsu, the director and playwright of the original play.

Where it came from
Touken Ranbu Kai: Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji is a 2024 anime adaptation produced by Studio Domerica, serving as a reimagining of the stage play Kyoden: Moyuru Honnouji. This series brings the narrative of the sword warriors back to its roots, focusing on the historical complexities of the Honnouji Incident while adhering to the franchise's tradition of anthropomorphizing legendary Japanese blades into human form.
The animation direction by Studio Domerica aimed to capture the intensity of the source stage play while utilizing the medium of television animation to expand on action sequences and character interactions. The production team focused on maintaining the distinct visual identities of the sword boys, balancing the historical gravity of the Sengoku period setting with the stylistic flair that has defined the Touken Ranbu franchise since its initial launch as a browser game.
