Where it came from
Utawarerumono: Imperial Princess Tusukuru's Splendid Days was released in 2018 as a companion OVA to the broader Utawarerumono franchise, specifically following the events depicted in the Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth titles. Produced by the studio WHITE FOX, this release serves as a lighthearted, slice-of-life narrative that shifts focus away from the series' trademark geopolitical conflict to highlight the everyday lives of the characters in the nation of Tusukuru.
The animation and character design for the OVA aim to maintain the aesthetic continuity established by the studio’s previous adaptations of the franchise. By focusing on domestic scenes and comedic interactions, the creators intended to provide a reprieve for long-time fans who were accustomed to the darker themes of the main visual novel arcs. It was received as a fan-focused installment, valued primarily for its character-driven vignettes rather than for advancing the main series plot.
