A certain point in time, in the continent of Telesis. The great war which divided the continent into North and South has ended after four years, and the people are welcoming a new generation. Violet Evergarden, a young girl formerly known as “the weapon”, has left the battlefield to start a new life at CH Postal Service. There, she is deeply moved by the work of “Auto Memories Dolls”, who carry people's thoughts and convert them into words. Violet begins her journey as an Auto Memories Doll, and comes face to face with various people's emotions and differing shapes of love. There are words Violet heard on the battlefield, which she cannot forget. These words were given to her by someone she holds dear, more than anyone else. She does not yet know their meaning but she searches to find it.

Where it came from
Violet Evergarden was produced by Kyoto Animation and released in 2018, based on the light novel series written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase. The series was developed as part of Kyoto Animation’s ongoing effort to adapt high-quality literary works into visual media, with the studio aiming to create a deeply emotional narrative focused on themes of human connection, war trauma, and the process of learning what it means to love.
The production is widely noted for its exceptional visual fidelity, characterized by meticulous background art and fluid character animation that emphasizes subtle expressions. Directed by Taichi Ishidate, the show’s aesthetic was designed to mirror the refined, period-inspired world of the source material. Upon its release, it received significant critical acclaim for its technical execution and emotional depth, becoming a defining work for the studio and establishing a reputation for high-end cinematic quality in television animation.
