Where it came from
Wangpai Yushi, known in English as Ace Censorate, is an ONA series produced by Haoliners Animation League. The show debuted in 2014 and is based on a popular web manhua by artist Kuxuan, which was serialized on the Tencent Animation platform. The narrative blends urban fantasy with comedic elements, centered on a world where the border between the human realm and the spirit world has collapsed, necessitating the intervention of specialized censors.
The series design is characteristic of the mid-2010s Chinese web animation boom, reflecting a move toward modern, high-energy aesthetic sensibilities intended to appeal to younger digital audiences. The animation style emphasizes dynamic action sequences and a blend of slapstick humor with supernatural themes, which was well-received by the domestic web-viewing community for its quirky character archetypes and its integration of modern urban settings with traditional folklore motifs.
