Where it came from
Wei Qi Shao Nian 2, known internationally as Go Go Go 2, is a Chinese animated television series that served as the sequel to the highly popular 2006 production. Released in 2023, the series continues the journey of the young protagonist Jiang Liu'er as he navigates the complex and disciplined world of Weiqi, or Go. Produced by CCTV Animation, the sequel was developed to modernize the visual aesthetic of the original series while maintaining its core focus on the strategic depth and philosophical aspects of the ancient board game.
The creative direction for this season aimed to balance nostalgia for the original fans with a contemporary animation style designed to appeal to a new generation of viewers. By emphasizing the intellectual growth of the characters rather than simple competition, the production team sought to promote traditional Chinese culture and the virtues of patience and perseverance. The series received significant attention in the domestic Chinese market, praised for its role in revitalizing a beloved intellectual property and its commitment to portraying the nuances of Weiqi with technical accuracy.
