Where it came from
Wu Hun Dalu, known internationally as Soul Land, is an ambitious 3D computer-animated series produced by the Chinese animation studio Ruo Hong Culture. The series is based on the popular web novel by Tang Jia San Shao and premiered as an ONA in 2018. It emerged during a period of significant growth for the Chinese animation industry, capitalizing on the increasing demand for high-fidelity adaptations of long-form fantasy literature.
The visual design of the series centers on a cultivation-based fantasy world, utilizing proprietary 3D modeling techniques to render intricate magical abilities and character armor. Ruo Hong Culture focused on creating a serialized format that could maintain a consistent weekly release schedule, a strategy that garnered a massive viewership and helped set a new industry standard for the production of long-running, domestically produced Chinese animation.
