Where it came from
Yakusoku no Utsuwa: Arita no Hatsukoi was produced in 2016 as a collaborative promotional film highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Arita, Japan, famous for its centuries-old porcelain tradition. Commissioned by the local government, the film was designed to bridge the gap between traditional craft and contemporary animation, aiming to attract younger generations to the Arita region ahead of the 400th anniversary of Arita ware.
The production was helmed by studio Seven Arcs, which utilized a clean, atmospheric art style to capture the scenic beauty and historical gravity of the pottery town. While not a conventional commercial release, the film was received as an effective piece of regional branding that successfully integrated the narrative of young romance with the meticulous, artisanal dedication required to create the town's namesake ceramics.
