Yao Wen Lu

Yao Wen Lu, also known as Yao-Wen-Lu or 'The Record of Strange Tales,' is an original net animation produced by the Chinese digital platform Bilibili. Released as part of the studio's push to adapt domestic animation based on traditional Chinese literature and folklore, the series seeks to modernize classic storytelling through a distinct, visually stylized approach to animation.

The series is noted for its atmospheric art direction, which draws heavily from historical aesthetics to ground its supernatural narratives. By combining elements of traditional Chinese ink-wash painting techniques with contemporary digital rendering, the production team aimed to capture the eerie and philosophical essence of the original texts it interprets. It has been received as a noteworthy entry in the growing movement of Chinese-produced web series that prioritize cultural heritage alongside high-fidelity visual effects.
