Yes! Precure 5

Yes! Precure 5 premiered in 2007 as the fourth installment in the long-running Pretty Cure magical girl franchise produced by Toei Animation. Departing from the established duo format of its predecessors, this series introduced a team of five distinct heroines, each representing a different suit from a deck of cards. The show sought to emphasize themes of teamwork and personal growth, expanding the target demographic by incorporating dynamic action sequences and a more diverse range of character personalities within the middle-school setting.

The character designs were overseen by Toshie Kawamura, who aimed for a softer, more fluid aesthetic that balanced the high-energy combat with the everyday lives of the students at L'Escargot school. The series was well-received by its audience, resulting in the direct sequel Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!. Its success cemented the team-based structure as a permanent pillar of the franchise, ensuring that future installments would continue to explore the ensemble dynamics first refined during this production.
