Youxia Zhanji

Youxia Zhanji, or The Defeated, emerged during the late 2010s expansion of the Chinese animation industry, specifically as part of Tencent Penguin Pictures' strategic push into high-quality original net animations. It was created to cater to a growing domestic and international audience interested in stylized martial arts narratives, blending traditional xianxia tropes with modern digital production techniques.

The series was developed with an emphasis on visual dynamism and fluid action sequences, characteristic of Tencent's broader push to compete with established anime studios. By utilizing contemporary 3D rendering alongside traditional character design aesthetics, the studio sought to establish a distinct visual identity that resonated with viewers familiar with web literature adaptations, ultimately receiving a mixed but attentive reception for its ambitious choreography and world-building.
