Where it came from
Yumekuri is a two-episode original video animation series released in 2012 by studio Diomedéa. It is based on a manga series by Hiroaki Harano, which explores the lighthearted and fantastical encounters occurring at a fictional hot spring resort. The production was intended as a niche, atmospheric project that emphasized the serene, restorative nature of traditional Japanese onsen culture, aiming to provide a brief, relaxing visual experience for its audience.
The adaptation was directed by Masahiro Takata, who sought to capture the gentle, slice-of-life charm inherent in the source material. By focusing on the interplay between the colorful inhabitants of the inn and its visitors, the studio utilized soft character designs and warm, muted color palettes to mirror the tranquil setting of the hot springs. Upon its release, it was received as a modest, character-driven work that appealed primarily to fans of restorative, slow-paced anime.
