After a slumber of 12 millennia, the Demon Empire returns to seize control of the Earth. Reideen, the giant robot-like protector of the lost continent of Mu, senses the evil presence and awakens within its golden pyramid, revealing to young Japanese boy Akira Hibiki that he is the one descendant of the ancient Mu people who must help Reideen save Earth.
He was assisted by his friends, token girl Mari Sakurano (daughter of a scientist fighting the Demon Empire) and several members of his high school soccer team.

Where it came from
Yuusha Raideen premiered in 1975 as a landmark production from Sunrise, representing a pivotal shift in the mecha genre. As the first 'super robot' series to incorporate fantasy elements and ancient mystical themes rather than purely science fiction, it was designed to appeal to a younger demographic through its iconic hero-robot that could transform into a fighter jet, a concept that heavily influenced future toy merchandising.
The series was directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino before his work on Mobile Suit Gundam, and featured distinct character designs by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. Its visual style, defined by the robot's sharp, avian-inspired aesthetics and the protagonist Akira Hibiki's connection to the lost continent of Mu, received critical praise for its innovation and remains a foundational entry in the history of Japanese animation.
