Anianiau

The Anianiau, scientifically classified as Magumma parva, is a species of honeycreeper endemic to the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Evolutionary biologists understand the species to be part of the adaptive radiation of the Hawaiian honeycreepers, a group that evolved from a common rosefinch-like ancestor to fill diverse ecological niches across the archipelago. Its physical characteristics, including its small, rounded wings and distinctive notched tail, are specialized adaptations that assist its movement through the dense, high-altitude rainforest canopy where it forages primarily for nectar and small insects.

The species was first formally described in the late 19th century as ornithologists documented the unique avian life of the Hawaiian Islands.
