Arrowhead Warbler

The Arrowhead Warbler, or Setophaga pharetra, is an endemic species restricted to the high-elevation montane forests of Jamaica. It evolved in isolation within the island's unique ecological niches, with its distinct name derived from the fine, dark streaking across its plumage that resembles a series of arrowheads. Ornithologically, it belongs to the New World warbler family, though it stands out from its migratory relatives due to its non-migratory, sedentary nature and its preference for the cool, humid conditions of the Blue and John Crow Mountains.

First formally described in the late 19th century, the bird is characterized by its compact, agile physique, featuring a pointed wing shape and a notched tail that allow for swift, masterful navigation through dense canopy foliage.
