Ash-throated Gnateater

The Ash-throated Gnateater was formally described by the ornithologist Ernst Hartert in 1902. As a member of the Conopophagidae family, it is part of a specialized group of ground-dwelling birds native to the humid understory of the western Amazon basin. Its taxonomy reflects the rigorous field research conducted by European naturalists during the turn of the 20th century, who sought to categorize the distinct avian biodiversity of South America’s remote tropical rainforests.
