Barred Forest-Falcon

The Barred Forest-Falcon (Micrastur ruficollis) is a neotropical bird of prey found across a diverse range of forested habitats from Mexico through South America. Formally described by the French ornithologist Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1817, it belongs to a genus of falcons that have evolved to hunt primarily within dense undergrowth rather than in the open sky. Its physical morphology, characterized by broad wings and a rounded tail, is a specialized adaptation that allows for high maneuverability through tangled vegetation, enabling the species to strike prey with speed and precision in cluttered environments.
