Black-capped Tinamou

The Black-capped Tinamou, scientifically classified as Crypturellus atrocapillus, is a member of the tinamou family, a group of ground-dwelling birds native to the Neotropics that are evolutionarily significant for their distant relationship to ratites like ostriches and emus. They were formally described and cataloged by naturalists in the 19th century as ornithologists sought to map the avian diversity of the humid forests of the eastern Andean slopes in Peru and Bolivia.
