Blanford's Snowfinch

The Blanford's Snowfinch was first described by the ornithologist Allan Octavian Hume in 1876, named in honor of the British naturalist William Thomas Blanford. This species is native to the high-altitude regions of the Tibetan Plateau and the surrounding Himalayas, evolving specifically to survive in arid, windswept alpine environments above 4,000 meters. Its morphology, including the distinct broad wing shape and notched tail, reflects an evolutionary adaptation for efficient flight and maneuverability in thin mountain air, allowing it to navigate the rugged terrain where few other passerines can thrive.
