Bornean Whistling-Thrush

The Bornean Whistling-Thrush, scientifically identified as Myophonus borneensis, is an endemic passerine bird restricted to the montane forests of Borneo. It was historically considered a subspecies of the Blue Whistling-Thrush, but it is now recognized as a distinct species based on its unique vocalizations and specific morphological differences. These birds thrive in the dense undergrowth and rocky stream beds of high-altitude environments, where their long, rounded wings facilitate agile flight through cluttered forest habitats.

The species is distinguished by its deep, iridescent blue-black plumage and a long tail that aids in balance while navigating damp, mossy terrains.
