Brown-winged Starling

The Brown-winged Starling, known scientifically as Aplonis grandis, is an avian species endemic to the Solomon Islands and the Bougainville Island region. It was first formally described by the German naturalist Edward Pierson Ramsay in 1881. As a member of the Sturnidae family, the bird occupies a specific ecological niche within the dense tropical forests of its native archipelago, evolving under the influence of island biogeography which characterizes many species in this oceanic region.

The physical design of the species is defined by its dark, monochromatic plumage and distinct anatomical features that reflect its adaptation to the forest canopy.
