Cape Parrot

The Cape Parrot, known scientifically as Poicephalus robustus, represents a distinct lineage of large-headed parrots native to the Afromontane forests of South Africa. Historically, these birds were widely distributed across the southern and eastern regions of the country, thriving in high-altitude yellowwood forests that provide their primary food source. Their presence in these specific ecosystems has made them a focal point for ornithological research, particularly regarding their specialized diet and the ecological pressures facing South African avian species.
