Chestnut-bellied Malkoha

The Chestnut-bellied Malkoha is a member of the cuckoo family, found primarily in the lowland forests and mangrove swamps of Southeast Asia. Unlike the parasitic species common in other regions, this malkoha is a non-parasitic bird that builds its own nests, reflecting a distinctive evolutionary divergence within the Cuculidae family. It was first described by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1822, reflecting the intense period of European natural history documentation occurring across the Malay Archipelago during the early nineteenth century.
