Chestnut-capped Flycatcher

The Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, scientifically classified as Erythrocercus mccallii, is a small passerine bird native to the lowland forests of Central and West Africa. It was formally described by the ornithologist John Cassin in 1855, named in honor of the American explorer and ornithologist Colonel George A. McCall. The species is characterized by its distinct chestnut crown and its specialized morphology, featuring rounded wings and a notched tail, which facilitate maneuverability within the dense understory of its habitat.

This species is part of the Erythrocercidae family, a group often recognized for their active, restless foraging behavior. The design and physical attributes of the bird have evolved to suit a life spent gleaning insects from the mid-to-lower canopy layers.
