Cocoi Heron

The Cocoi Heron, or Ardea cocoi, is a large wading bird native to South America. It was formally described by Carl Linnaeus in 1766, following centuries of observation by indigenous cultures and early European explorers. As a member of the Ardeidae family, its evolutionary trajectory has favored a specialized morphology suited for the wetlands of the Neotropics, characterized by its distinctive broad wings and pointed tail which facilitate efficient flight over vast marshes and river systems.
