Euler's Flycatcher

Euler's Flycatcher was first described by the ornithologist Jean Cabanis in 1868. The species is named in honor of Carl Hieronymus Euler, a Swiss-born merchant and amateur naturalist who resided in Brazil during the mid-19th century and collected numerous specimens in the Cantagalo region of Rio de Janeiro. This species belongs to the family Tyrannidae and is characterized by its relatively small size, olive-brown plumage, and specific anatomical features such as its rounded wing shape and notched tail.

The bird is a denizen of the understory in humid forests and woodlands across a vast range in South America, from Venezuela and the Guianas down to Argentina. As a member of the Lathrotriccus genus, it is known for its inconspicuous behavior and distinct vocalizations, which are often the primary method for identification in the field. Throughout its history in biological study, the species has been noted for its adaptability to secondary forests, allowing it to maintain a stable presence across diverse tropical habitats despite the environmental shifts in the Neotropics.
