Fulvous Shrike-Tanager

The Fulvous Shrike-Tanager is a specialized member of the Thraupidae family, characterized by its distinctively broad wings and rounded tail. It occupies the humid lowland forests of the Amazon Basin and the Guiana Shield, functioning as a participant in mixed-species understory foraging flocks. The species is evolutionarily adapted to an insectivorous diet, employing its hooked, shrike-like bill to seize prey from foliage and branches within the shaded mid-levels of its habitat.

First described in 1783 by Pieter Boddaert, the species belongs to a genus of tanagers that exhibit remarkable sexual dimorphism.
