Great Egret

The Great Egret, Ardea alba, is a cosmopolitan species that holds a significant place in the history of global conservation. During the late 19th century, the birds were hunted to the brink of extinction to supply the millinery trade, as their delicate, long nuptial plumes were highly coveted for fashionable hats.
