Great Pampa-Finch

The Great Pampa-Finch, taxonomically classified as Embernagra platensis, is a passerine bird native to the grasslands and wetlands of South America. First described by the naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1789, the species emerged into the scientific record during an era of intense European exploration and classification of Neotropical fauna. Its presence in natural history collections was historically prioritized by ornithologists interested in the unique adaptations of birds inhabiting the vast, open pampas of Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil.
