Hartlaub's Bustard

Hartlaub's bustard, scientifically classified as Lissotis hartlaubii, is a member of the Otididae family native to eastern Africa. Named in honor of the German physician and ornithologist Gustav Hartlaub, the species is primarily found in the grasslands and semi-arid regions of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. It occupies a niche within the bustard family defined by its preference for open, relatively dry habitats where its unique morphology—notably its broad wings and rounded tail—supports its characteristic terrestrial lifestyle and short, heavy flights.
