Large Hawk-Cuckoo

The Large Hawk-Cuckoo, Hierococcyx sparverioides, is a migratory species native to the temperate and tropical forests of Asia, ranging from the Himalayas through Southeast Asia. As a member of the cuckoo family, it is biologically notable for its brood parasitic behavior, a reproductive strategy that has fascinated ornithologists for centuries due to its specialized evolutionary adaptations. It was formally described by Nicholas Aylward Vigors in 1832, following the period's intense interest in classifying the diverse avian life of the Indian subcontinent.

The species is distinguished by its distinctively broad wings and long, pointed tail, physical characteristics that facilitate its maneuverability through dense canopy environments.
