The Least Flycatcher, scientifically known as Empidonax minimus, occupies a vital niche in the avian world as the smallest member of its genus in eastern North America. It was formally described by William M. Baird and Spencer Fullerton Baird in 1843, emerging from an era defined by intense interest in categorizing the vast biodiversity of the continent.
