Northern Flicker

The Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) is a widely distributed member of the woodpecker family native to North America. Evolutionary biology identifies its development as a result of long-term environmental adaptation, characterized by a distinct departure from typical woodpecker behavior, as these birds are often found foraging on the ground for ants and beetles rather than exclusively drilling into tree trunks.
