Orange-headed Tanager

The Orange-headed Tanager, known scientifically as Thlypopsis sordida, is a member of the Thraupidae family native to South America. It is typically found in gallery forests, shrublands, and riparian areas across regions such as the Amazon basin, the Cerrado, and parts of northern Argentina. The species evolved to thrive in these humid, vegetated environments, where its specific morphology—including its rounded wings and rounded tail—supports a lifestyle characterized by short, agile flights through dense foliage rather than long-distance migration.

The species was formally described by the French naturalist Alcide d'Orbigny and his associate Frédéric de Lafresnaye in the 19th century.
