Plain-tailed Warbling Finch

The Plain-tailed Warbling Finch was formally described in the late 19th century, emerging from the era of extensive biological exploration in the high-altitude regions of the northern Andes. Native to the arid scrub and rocky slopes of Bolivia, the species occupies a specific ecological niche that has kept it largely removed from the pressures of lowland development, though it remains sensitive to habitat fragmentation in its restricted range.

Taxonomically, the species was historically associated with the genus Poospiza before being moved to Microspingus following molecular phylogenetic studies. The bird is characterized by its subdued, earthy plumage, which serves as effective camouflage against its rugged alpine environment.
