Red-faced Warbler

The Red-faced Warbler, or Cardellina rubrifrons, is a species native to the high-elevation coniferous forests of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It was formally described by John Cassin in 1849, following its discovery in the mountains of northern Mexico. As a member of the Parulidae family, it stands out for its distinctively bright red face and throat, which contrast sharply with its grey upperparts, making it a prized subject for 19th-century ornithological illustrators who documented the avian diversity of the American frontier.
