The Rusty-winged Barbtail (Premnornis guttuliger) is a member of the Furnariidae family, a group of birds primarily found in the Neotropical regions of Central and South America. This species was first scientifically described by P.L. Sclater in 1857, emerging from the mid-19th-century push to classify the diverse avian fauna of the Andean foothills. Its specific name reflects its distinct plumage, characterized by the rufous-brown tones on its wings that contrast with its olive-brown body and speckled throat.
