Salvadori's Nightjar

Salvadori's Nightjar, Caprimulgus pulchellus, was first described by the Italian ornithologist Tommaso Salvadori in the late 19th century. Endemic to the island of Sumatra, this nocturnal species occupies high-altitude montane forests, a habitat that has historically made it elusive to researchers and difficult to observe in the wild. Its classification reflects the broader nineteenth-century scientific effort to document the avian biodiversity of the Malay Archipelago.

The bird is characterized by its broad wings and rounded tail, physical traits that have evolved to suit its specialized environment and hunting behavior in dense forest undergrowth.
