Straneck's Tyrannulet

Straneck's Tyrannulet (Serpophaga griseicapilla) was formally described in the early 21st century by Roberto Straneck. The discovery highlighted the complex taxonomy of the Serpophaga genus, as the bird had long gone overlooked due to its striking physical similarities to the White-crested Tyrannulet. Its identification was driven by advanced bioacoustic analysis, which revealed distinct vocalization patterns that separated it from its close relatives, proving that subtle differences in song can often delineate species in South American flycatchers.

The bird is characterized by a modest, brownish-gray plumage, a rounded wing shape, and a noticeably notched tail.
