Streak-throated Bush-Tyrant

The Streak-throated Bush-Tyrant, scientifically classified as Myiotheretes striaticollis, is a passerine bird belonging to the Tyrannidae family. First described by Philip Sclater in 1853, the species is native to the Andean regions of South America, ranging from Venezuela and Colombia down through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and into northern Argentina. It is part of a genus of flycatchers adapted to open, montane landscapes, favoring scrubby slopes and rocky terrain at high elevations where its broad wings allow for agile flight while hunting insects.

The design of the species, defined by its evolutionary development, features a distinct notched tail and characteristic dark streaks across its throat. Ornithological documentation from the 19th and early 20th centuries highlighted its role within the high-altitude ecosystem, where it occupies a niche as a sit-and-wait predator. While not a subject of human design in the artistic sense, its biological form has been extensively illustrated in taxonomic field guides, such as those by Ridgely and Tudor, which aimed to distinguish it from the closely related smoky bush-tyrant based on subtle plumage variations.
