Stripe-breasted Spinetail

The Stripe-breasted Spinetail (Synallaxis cinnamomea) was first formally described by the French ornithologist Frédéric de Lafresnaye in 1843. As a member of the Furnariidae family, this species is native to the humid mountain forests of Colombia and Venezuela, inhabiting the undergrowth where its cryptic plumage provides necessary camouflage. Its discovery reflects the intense period of South American biological cataloging that occurred during the 19th century, as European naturalists sought to document the immense avian diversity of the northern Andes.

The bird is characterized by its distinctively rounded wings and notched tail, anatomical features that aid in its short, fluttering flights between dense forest stalks.
