Stripe-tailed Yellow-Finch

The Stripe-tailed Yellow-Finch, Sicalis citrina, belongs to the diverse Thraupidae family, primarily inhabiting open grasslands, rocky slopes, and scrubby habitats across much of South America. It was first formally described by the ornithologist Auguste Pelzeln in 1870. The species is characterized by its distinct yellow underparts and olive-green upperparts, with its identifying 'stripe' appearing as a subtle, pale yellow edge to the wing feathers rather than a prominent marking on the tail itself, despite the common name.

The bird's design reflects its adaptation to ground-dwelling life in high-altitude or arid environments, evidenced by its rounded wings which are suited for short, burst-like flights rather than long-distance migration.
