Sula Jungle Flycatcher

The Sula Jungle Flycatcher (Cyornis colonus) is an endemic passerine restricted to the Sula Islands of Indonesia. It occupies a distinct place within the Old World flycatcher family, Muscicapidae, and is recognized for its specialized adaptation to the dense, humid rainforests of the Banggai and Sula archipelagos. Its evolutionary lineage reflects the complex biogeography of Wallacea, where isolated island populations have diverged significantly from their mainland Southeast Asian relatives.

Ornithologically, the species is defined by its unique morphology, including its characteristic rounded wing shape—suited for short, maneuverable flights within the forest understory—and a notably pointed tail.
