Tanager Finch

The Tanager Finch, Oreothraupis arremonops, is a distinctive avian species native to the humid montane forests of the northern Andes, primarily residing within the border regions of Colombia and Ecuador. Its classification has historically been a subject of taxonomic debate, as it exhibits characteristics of both tanagers and emberizid sparrows. Ornithologists have often found its evolutionary lineage difficult to place, leading to its status as the sole member of its genus.

The species is defined by its subtle, earthy plumage and structural features such as its rounded wings and slightly notched tail, which reflect its adaptation to dense undergrowth and skulking behavior.
