Velvet-fronted Euphonia

The Velvet-fronted Euphonia, or Euphonia concinna, was formally described by the ornithologist John Cassin in 1865. As a member of the Fringillidae family—or more specifically, the distinct Euphonia genus—this species is endemic to the humid forest regions of the Magdalena Valley in Colombia. Its taxonomy reflects the period's rigorous efforts to categorize the diverse neotropical avian life documented by 19th-century explorers and naturalists.
