Yellow-browed Tody-Flycatcher

The Yellow-browed Tody-Flycatcher (Todirostrum chrysocrotaphum) was first formally described by the naturalist Hugh Strickland in 1850. As a member of the Tyrannidae family, this species is endemic to the Amazon Basin and parts of the upper Madeira River, occupying a specific niche within the humid lowland forests. Its evolutionary development resulted in the distinct rounded wing shape and notched tail characteristic of the genus, adaptations that facilitate agile, short-range maneuvering during its typical flycatching foraging behavior.

The bird is distinguished by its vivid yellow brow and emerald plumage, features that have long made it a subject of interest in ornithological surveys of the Neotropics. Unlike many other members of the genus, its geographical range is highly localized, which has made it a significant indicator species for researchers studying the biodiversity of the Amazonian canopy.
